The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to create chaos in Rivers State by going ahead to announced result of the March 19, 2016 National and State Assembly rerun election in Tai local government area of the state. The party insisted that the INEC National Commissioner in-charge of Operations, and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, are parties to a suit stopping the commission from announcing the result and must vacate the court order before going ahead with the announcement.
The publicity secretary of PDP in the state, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday while reacting to the declaration by Ikoiwak that the election were successfully concluded before the INEC field officers got the information that the elections have been suspended.
Nwanosike said, “Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, the Resident Electoral Commissioner and Mrs. Amina Zakari, the National Commissioner in-charge of Operations, are all parties to the suit stopping the declaration of the Tai local government area election result.
“We have an interlocutory order of the Federal High Court stopping the announcement. The order of Justice Liman is yet to be vacated. So, INEC cannot do anything on the Tai election result.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner should be patient enough and go to the court to vacate the order with good reasons. He should not throw Rivers State into crisis in Rivers State. The DSS and Police should advice to Ikoiwak to go to court.
