Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick in Portugal’s World Cup qualifier on Thursday to pass Pele on the list of top international goal scorers. Ronaldo three goals in Portugal’s 5-1 win over Faroe Islands took him to 78 for his country in his career, surpassing the 77 that Pele scored for Brazil from 1957-71. However, Ronaldo needed 144 games to accomplish the feat, while Pele played in just 92. Nwakali of Arsenal move on loan to VVV-Venlo

Arsenal have sent Nigeria teenage midfielder Kelechi Nwakali on loan to Dutch club VVV-Venlo for the season. Nwakali, 19, joined the Gunners last summer but has yet to earn a work permit to play in England and spent last season on loan at Maastricht, for whom he made 30 appearances. He helped lead Nigeria to the Under-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015, being named the best player of the tournament.
